The aid for community infrastructure in the villages of return of the displaced stemmed from the fact that the elderly are the first to return to their localities of origin, because of their inability to adapt in the displacement areas.

The aim of this aid was to re-create the social fabric of these villages, in order to encourage youths to return, and to promote inter-community life among them, because it is vital for the future of these villages to attract the youth there. In this spirit, gathering areas have been conceived, in which youngsters could come for leisure, while also having exchanges of a sporting or cultural nature.

This program has proved to be of great importance, because it has answered the needs of villages which often lack areas and material means that could help creating and developing their social bonding.

The requests that reached the ILDES in this respect came from various channels(municipalities, clubs, mayor councils, Ministry of the Displaced, waqf committees, etc…) Thanks to the contribution of the European Commission, thirteen projects have been executed in as many villages during the spring of 2001, with prior financial participation by the beneficiary authorities.

The equipment has started being used by the inhabitants of several of these villages, in particular by youngsters, from the beginning of the summer of 2001.
